Yew Tree opened in July 2002 after over three years of campaigning for a community facility that would aid training, learning, support and development. The Centre shares its current location with the yew tree tenants and residents association. They were established 17 years ago and their aim was to provide welfare, benefits and other housing advice and services to the local residents of Yew Tree. Manager of the Yew Tree Centre, Pat Gannon, has been in charge of the project for over 3 and half years. The Yew Tree Centre is phase one of a possible three-phase proposal to transform an area of wasteland in the Yew Tree area.
We have just secured £200,000 to develop a grassland area into a child's play area, football pitch, and basketball court and parkland area. Building for this part of the project is set to be begin in Jan 2003 and should be completed by Summer 2003.
