Its all thanks to Pat!

Around three and a half years ago I became Chair of the Yew Tree Community Centre. On taking this position I heard about certain money available to local community projects.

I approached the Wirral Met. College and with the help was able to fill in the application forms, and later on I had to put a bid together with a proposal for an IT Centre in our local community.

The QAA short list of applicants was invited to attend interviews at The Central Government Office in Liverpool, of which I was one. Following this interview I was successful in my proposal, which considering the amount of applicants, 88 in all, three others and I were granted the money for our projects. Out of the four projects granted, Yew Tree was the only one who would be getting a new building at cost of £306,000.

The following to and half years, with the help of Chris Bowen, Alan Stennard and staff from Property Development we acquired the land to build the new Centre, and in July this year 2002 we opened our new IT Centre

Due to all this help, I asked Chris Bowen to officially open the Centre; other guests included the Mayor of Wirral, Mrs Patricia Williams, Angela eagle MP members of the Wirral Federation and staff from the Local Government and Wirral Met. Offices.

The IT Centre is now up and running very successfully and the local community are getting many benefits from it.
