Around three and a half years ago I became Chair of the Yew Tree Community Centre. On taking this position I heard about certain money available to local community projects. I approached the Wirral Met. College and with the help was able to fill in the application forms, and later on I had to put a bid together with a proposal for an IT Centre in our local community. The QAA short list of applicants was invited to attend interviews at The Central Government Office in Liverpool, of which I was one. Following this interview I was successful in my proposal, which considering the amount of applicants, 88 in all, three others and I were granted the money for our projects. Out of the four projects granted, Yew Tree was the only one who would be getting a new building at cost of £306,000.
The IT Centre is
now up and running very successfully and the local community are getting many
benefits from it. Pat
